I had all the carpets cleaned in my house today by Craig and they look fantastic. They are visibly cleaner and the pile has a whole new lease of life! Craig is incredibly knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend.
The Limits of Carpet Cleaning
While carpet cleaning is a fantastic way to refresh and maintain your carpets, it's crucial to understand its limitations
Introduction
Carpet cleaning is a powerful tool for maintaining the appearance and hygiene of your carpets. However, it's essential to understand that there are some things it can't accomplish. In this blog post, we'll explore the boundaries of carpet cleaning and help you set realistic expectations for your carpet's condition.
1. Permanent Stains
Some stains, marks, especially those left unattended for an extended period, may be impossible to completely remove. Wool and wool-mix carpets are more susceptible to permanent staining, due to the natural fibres absorbing the dyes etc.
Examples of stubborn stains: Tea, coffee, inks, red wine, urine, vomit, pet stains, fruit juices & oily based stains.
2. Wear and Tear
Normal wear and tear, including fraying, or thinning, colour loss, sun bleaching of carpet fibres can't be reversed through cleaning.
It's important to treat & remove spillages as soon as possible to prevent the carpet fibres from absorbing the stains. Do not use off the shelf stain removers from the supermarket as these contain bleaching agents and are full of alkaline which can make the stain permanent or bleaching of wool or wool-mix carpets
3. Damaged Fibres
Damaged carpet fibres may remain damaged after cleaning, as this is permanent and vacuuming or cleaning will only make these areas better for a short amount of time.
Options for dealing with damaged areas: place rugs or furniture over damaged areas to reduce the visibility. Try not to use rug tape to secure the rugs to the carpets as this will leave a permanent adhesive residue in the carpet fibres.
4. Permanent Odours
The limitations of removing deeply embedded or long-standing odours i.e. pet urine that has penetrated into the underlay or sub-floor, properties that have damp or mould issues and any other factors which cleaning can't remove.
Tips on dealing with persistent odours: regular vacuuming and professional carpet cleaning will help reduce odours and treat any pet stains immediately using a product which you can buy from Amazon, BioProductions Sanitaire powder, which will absorb all moisture whilst sanitising and deodorising the affected area. Then call us to rinse and clean the area fully to remove any remaining odours.
5. Discoloration
There are situations where discoloration due to sun exposure or chemical reactions can't be reversed.
High traffic areas in front of sofas, in and out of rooms and in the middle of stairs will see colour loss which also can't be reversed.
Conclusion
While carpet cleaning is a fantastic way to refresh and maintain your carpets, it's crucial to understand its limitations. Some issues, such as permanent stains or extensive wear, may require additional measures or even carpet replacement. By setting realistic expectations, you can make informed decisions about the care and maintenance of your carpets.
